• 1 quart milk or half and half
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 loaf day old Italian or French bread
  • 1 scant cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons vanilla
  • 4 large ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon, divided in half
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh, finely grated ginger root
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons dark rum or banana liqueur


  1. First you need to add raisins in the rum or liqueur.
  2. warm it in the microwave for 20 to 30 seconds.
  3. Then you have to make it sit for 30 minutes.
  4. Add half teaspoon of cinnamon and mix.
  5. Cut the loaf of bread, and add it in a bowl of milk.
  6. Make it stand for one hour.
  7. In another bowl, you need to beat eggs, vanilla, sugar and spices.
  8. Combine the bananas and other ingredients together.
  9. Put this mixture in a baking dish, and bake it for 70 to 75 minutes at 325 degrees.
  10. You can serve it with whipped cream.
